Meals to Make in a Slow Cooker in Your Lady Lake Apartment

A slow cooker is a great appliance to keep in your kitchen at The Quarters because it allows you to make hearty, hot meals with relatively little work. A slow cooker is meant for making roasts and stews, which need to be cooked for long periods of time at temperatures lower than the normal temperatures for baking, broiling, or boiling.

Slow cookers offer a great way to prepare food early in the day and have it all ready to serve when dinner time rolls around, and you don’t need to spend all day tending to the stove or oven. You just put your slow cooker ingredients in, turn it on, and go about your daily housekeeping.

Below are some simple slow cooker recipes that you may just want to try at your Lady Lake apartment:

  • BBQ pork – Add one can of beef broth and three pounds of boneless pork ribs to the slow cooker. Cover and cook on the highest heat setting for about four hours, or until the meat shreds easily. Transfer meat to a saucepan and stir in barbecue sauce until heated through. Serve on hamburger buns.
  • Beans and sausage – Cook sliced sausage in a skillet until heated through, then transfer to a slow cooker. Add one chopped onion, one can of baked beans, one can of butter beans, ½ cup of ketchup, ½ cup of brown sugar, one tablespoon of barbecue sauce, and ¼ teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. Cover and cook on the highest heat setting for about four hours. Serve in bowls with grated cheese sprinkled on top.
  • Chicken and dumplings – Place four skinless, boneless chicken breasts in the slow cooker, along with two tablespoons of butter, two cans of condensed cream of chicken soup, and one finely diced onion. Cook for about five hours on the highest heat setting. A half hour before serving, drop torn pieces of refrigerated biscuit dough on top of the simmering stew. Cook until dough is no longer raw and serve.
