Fixes to Common Sleep Problems

From leg cramps to neck pain, there are many reasons why people say they can’t get a good night’s sleep these days. And going without the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep can definitely have a negative impact, leaving the sleep-deprived feeling groggy, grumpy, and stressed out.

Thankfully, there are solutions to many common issues that keep individuals from sleeping. Here are a few fixes that have proven successful at promoting shuteye:

  • For shoulder pain – Don’t sleep on your side, or if you must sleep on your side, sleep on the shoulder that does not hurt. Also, it can help to sleep on your back with your pillow over your torso, and place your arms over your pillow, hugging it.
  • For back pain – You should probably avoid sleeping on your stomach, but if you must, put a pillow under your thighs. If you sleep on your back, place a pillow under your legs. Side sleepers can put a pillow between their legs.
  • For neck pain – Newer pillows that still have their original shape are the key to helping neck pain at night. Replace your pillow every two years, and try a firm pillow, such as a latex pillow.
  • For leg cramps – Experts are not sure what causes leg cramps at night, but massaging the area and stretching can help. Applying heat to the muscle also can relieve the cramps.
