Tips for Organizing Your Closet

Organizing your closet can be a time-consuming chore, especially if you have a mountain of clothes, shoes, and accessories that you don’t want to part with. However, sorting through your closet and organizing its contents can help you create more space for new clothes, sports equipment, and whatever else you want to store in there, so it’s worth it to dedicate a little time to the process.

If you’re not sure where to begin when cleaning and organizing your closet, just follow the tips below:

  1. Start by removing everything that you have in there and lay it all out.

  2. Create four piles to sort things into: one pile for items you will keep, one pile for items you will donate or give to friends, one pile for items that are stained or damaged, and one pile for items you are unsure about.

  3. Throw away anything that is damaged beyond repair, or take it to a textile recycling company, then sort your donations and bring them to a donation center, to friends who may want them, or sell them to a used clothing store.

  4. Organize the things you’ll keep in a way that makes sense for you. For some people, this means by color, for others by style. You can try a few different options until you find a system you like.

  5. Finally, place everything you are unsure about in a box and tuck it away out of site. Give yourself a set amount of time, maybe a few months, to leave it alone. If, during that time, you find yourself missing something you put in the box, go take it out. When the allotted time has passed, take anything you haven’t thought about and donate it.

By following this easy process, you’ll have your closet cleaned out and organized in no time! If you’re looking for an apartment with tons of closet space, check out The Quarters Apartment.
