Learning about Florida’s Gift Card Laws in Our Apartments in Lady Lake, Florida

Have you ever received a gift card to a restaurant and attempted to use it, only to find out that it hs already expired? This can be extremely frustrating and leave you footing the entire bill instead of getting the discount you were anticipating. Nowadays, this doesn’t happen anymore, at least in Florida. As of June 28, 2007, Florida adopted a law banning the expiration of gift cards, and many residents of our apartments in Lady Lake, Florida have been very happy to hear about this law.

In Florida, gift cards do not expire except when they are issued in one of three ways, which are:

  • Gift cards provided as a charitable contribution. These must last at least three years, but can expire.
  • Gift cards provided as part of a customer loyalty program, promotions program, or employee-incentive program. These must last at least one year, but can expire.
  • Gift cards provided as part of a larger package, such as a convention, conference, sporting event, or vacation. The duration of validity for these types of gift cards varies.

So, the next time you are told that a gift card has expired, you can be armed with the knowledge of the law on your side. For more information about The Quarters Apartment Homes, please give our leasing office a call or simply stop by today. We would love to give you a tour of the community.
