Even with all the technology and information we have these days, life can still present small challenges that cost us time, money, and effort. However, thanks to better communication tools, people from all over the world are constantly sharing ideas on ways to make things a little easier on all of us.
All you have to do is go online, watch TV, or text a friend to get a new idea for the day. Here are a few ideas we picked out that we think you might find handy around your Lady Lake, Florida apartment at The Quarters:
- Making homemade ice packs – Instead of using ice cubes wrapped in a towel, try making these affordable and effective ice packs. First, fill a freezer bag with a mixture of two cups of water and one cup of rubbing alcohol. Seal the bag shut, but try to get as much air out of the bag as possible when you do. Then, put that bag into a second freezer bag to protect from any leaks. Put the double-bagged mixture into the freezer for at least an hour. Once it’s finished, you’ll have a homemade ice pack that gets very cold but never freezes into solid ice, making it soft and easy to manipulate over a sore muscle or abrasion. You can wrap your homemade ice pack in a towel before applying it to your skin, if desired.
- Keeping your oven clean – To protect your oven from spills, put a cookie sheet on the rack below the dish you’re putting in the oven. This allows the cookie sheet to catch any drippings from your dish, instead of letting those drippings get all over the oven. We think you’ll agree that it’s easier to clean a cookie sheet than an oven!
- Cleaning hair off furniture or car seats – First, get a pack of rubber gloves from the store (the type that come 100 to a box that a surgeon would wear). Then, put a glove on and rub it over the upholstery that’s covered in hair (this works especially well for pet hair). You’ll notice that the hair clings to the glove, and all you have to do is take off the glove by turning it inside out and throwing it away with the hair trapped inside.
