Life is busy for most of us and it’s not easy to keep up with chores at home. Even so, it’s important to keep your apartment clean and orderly so that you can enjoy your living space to the fullest.
But with so many chores to remember, how can you keep track of what needs to be done, and when? One way to stay on top of your housework is to set up a calendar. Here are some ideas to get you started:
1. Start by brainstorming. Try to think of absolutely everything you need to do around the house on a regular basis. Don't leave anything important off your list, such as scheduling regular updates to your smoke detector batteries.
2. Organize tasks by how often you need to do them. Set up three separate lists for chores that need to be done on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. For daily chores (making the bed, washing dishes, wiping down counters), it's best to use a to-do list. For weekly (vacuuming, laundry) and monthly (change air filters, test smoke alarms) chores, a calendar is often more helpful. Some chores might be more infrequent, like every three months (clean out and wipe down inside the fridge), every six months (reverse ceiling fan direction), and every year (review renters insurance policy and take inventory of your possessions).
3. Set up a reminder. After you've written your daily chores on a to-do list, you might want to consider setting up convenient reminders to do them. Adhesive notes and smart phones are quite helpful for this.
It might take a little time to get your housework calendar together, but once you do, it’s a tool you can use indefinitely and adjust as your situation and needs change. Before you know it, your Lady Lake apartment will be in perfect order every day, freeing up your time to focus on something else important in your life.
