Have you ever considered making ice cream yourself? Even if you don’t own an ice cream machine, it’s not difficult to do at all. All it takes is the right ingredients and a little patience, and you’re well on your way to becoming a master at making homemade ice cream!
To make homemade vanilla ice cream at your Lady Lake, Florida, apartment, you will need the following ingredients:
• Chopped ice
• ¾ cup rock salt
• 1 cup heavy cream
• ½ cup milk
• 8 ounces sweetened condensed milk
• ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
• Table salt
First, you will want to mix up the ice cream base, and then you’ll chill it in your freezer. Here is the step-by-step process:
• Begin by whisking together the cream, milk, and condensed milk in a small (1 quart) bowl until well mixed. Then, add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, and whisk to combine. Place the mixture uncovered in your freezer for an hour.
• After the ice cream mix has chilled, take a large mixing bowl and fill it halfway with chopped ice. Stir in the rock salt.
• Then, nestle the smaller bowl containing the ice cream mixture in the ice so it’s almost completely buried. Using a hand mixer, beat the mix for 10 minutes. (If you use a whisk, beat for 15 minutes.)
• Cover the smaller bowl with a towel and place the bowls in the freezer for 45 minutes.
• After that, take the bowls out of the freezer and test the mixture by dragging a spoon across the top. It should have the consistency of loose pudding. Then, mix again for 5 minutes, or until the mixture has the texture of soft-serve ice cream.
• Remove the smaller bowl from the larger bowl and cover the top of the smaller bowl with plastic wrap. Freeze for an additional two hours or overnight.
• Then, serve and enjoy!
