The start of a new year is an excellent time to reflect on the past twelve months and plan for the next. But, while making New Year’s resolutions is common practice, sticking to them is not. If you’re considering making a change for the upcoming year but don’t want to forget about it a few weeks in, consider the following tips:
Start Small
Resolutions are often easier said than done, so it’s important to choose something you can realistically stick to. For example, if you want to start saving more, set a goal to save a few dollars a week rather than to set aside a huge portion of your paycheck. This way, you’re more likely to follow through.
Plan Ahead
To set an attainable goal, it’s important to think about it in advance. Rather than come up with an idea while the ball drops, start thinking about your goals early. When you give yourself time to think it over, you’ll be able to set a goal that truly matters to you.
Get Back on Track
As the months pass, life can often get in the way of our resolutions. If you get off track, don’t beat yourself up. Just return to your goal and try again rather than give it up entirely.
