If you’re looking for a fun do-it-yourself project to complete at your apartment at The Quarters, why not consider making your own placemats? As long as you have a sewing machine, it’s a project that won’t take you long to complete, and will give you a beautiful addition for your dining room table.
To make placemats for your apartment in Lady Lake, Florida, you’ll need scissors, an iron and ironing board, a ruler, a sewing machine, and 100 percent cotton fabric. Before beginning any of the sewing, you’ll first want to wash and dry the fabric to ensure that it is pre-shrunk. Here are the steps:
• Step 1 – Cut the fabric. For a standard-size placemat, consider cutting your fabric 17 inches by 22 inches.
• Step 2 – Position the fabric so that the back side of the placemat faces you. On the top and bottom edges of the fabric, fold over about 3/4 of an inch and iron to leave a crease. Then, fold over the same sides by an inch and iron them to leave a second crease.
• Step 3 – Start sewing. You’ll want to stitch along the line of the first crease. Do this for both sides.
• Step 4 – Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the remaining two sides.
• Step 5 – Enjoy your brand-new placemats!
Your handmade placemats can be wrapped up to be given as a gift or simply placed on your very own dining room table at The Quarters.
