Quinoa is a “superfood” that was discovered over 5,000 years ago and is cultivated in the Andes. It’s a seed, but is used in the same way that grains like rice and barley are. Quinoa is packed with protein, and is high in iron, magnesium, and fiber. But the best part about quinoa? It is incredibly easy to cook.
To prepare quinoa at your Lady Lake, Florida, apartment, you will need quinoa of any variety, olive oil, and a liquid (such as broth or water). Here is how to make a batch:
• First, measure out 1 cup of quinoa and rinse it in cold water for two minutes. This removes the coating, which can make the dish taste bitter.
• Next, heat a small quantity of olive oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat and add the quinoa, stirring it for about a minute.
• Add two cups of your chosen liquid and bring to a boil.
• Once it is boiling, turn down the heat to the lowest setting and cook covered for 15 minutes.
• After 15 minutes, remove the pan from the heat and let it stand for five minutes, keeping it covered.
• Now, simply fluff the quinoa gently with a fork, and serve!
It’s important to note that one cup of dry quinoa will yield about three cups once it’s cooked, so if you want to make more or less of the dish, you’ll need to adjust your measurements.
