As much as we all try to keep our apartments clean and smelling fresh, there are always times when we’d like to come home to an amazing scent. Thankfully, you don’t have to go to the store and pick up some air freshener to achieve the scent you desire. There are many easy, inexpensive alternatives to aerosols and plug-ins.
Here are a few ideas on how you can help any room in your apartment smell better:
- Use your slow cooker (or any pot on the stove) – You can turn your slow cooker into a home deodorizer by filling it halfway with water, adding three sticks of cinnamon, two tablespoons of nutmeg, and a quarter cup of cloves. Mix the solution together and turn your slow cooker on its lowest temperature. Leave the lid off and soon, you’ll enjoy a beautiful scent throughout your apartment. Just add a cup or two of warm water to your slow cooker occasionally so it won’t dry out. (If you don’t have a slow cooker, just use a cooking pot on your stove. Set the burner to its lowest setting and add warm water to prevent it from drying out.)
- Use dryer sheets – Tape a dryer sheet next to any air conditioning vent. Next time your AC or heater comes on, the air will flow past the dryer sheet and help the room smell great. This trick is especially effective in bathrooms.
- Refresh your rugs – Mix one cup of baking soda with one tablespoon of ground cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture on your carpet or rugs, let it sit for 30 minutes, and vacuum.
- Make a baking soda spray – To fight almost any odor, mix a half cup of baking soda with four cups of warm water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and you’ll be able to nix any odor that’s been bothering you.
