Ways to Prevent Getting Sick

No one enjoys getting sick. At the very least, it is an inconvenience to continue your daily obligations while not feeling well. In extreme cases, even a common cold can lead to more serious health complications like pneumonia. While it’s not possible to avoid getting sick forever, here are some steps people can take to reduce their chances of developing an illness:

  • Wash your hands frequently, especially after being in public places. Cold and flu germs can lurk on many of the things you touch out in the world, such as doorknobs, gas station pumps, and shopping carts, to name a few. While out and about, avoid putting your hands in your mouth or eyes, and try to wash your hands frequently throughout the day.

  • Get plenty of rest. Studies have shown that those who get adequate sleep are better able to fight off viruses. This is likely because the body releases cytokines – a type of protein – during extended sleep, which help to regulate the immune system.

  • Maintain a healthy diet. It’s important to get the vitamins you need through your diet, and the nutrients found in green leafy vegetables can boost immune system functions. Additionally, limit alcohol intake, as it can weaken the immune system and make it harder for your body to fight off illnesses.

  • Get a flu shot. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone aged six months or older get the flu vaccine, and estimates that it prevents millions of illnesses every year.

Anyone can follow these tips to enjoy healthier living no matter where they live. If you are not yet a resident of The Quarters Apartment Homes and would like more information about our Lady Lake, FL, apartments, contact the leasing office today.
