A good banana split will consist of:
- A long, oval-shaped ice cream dish
- A scoop of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream
- Strawberry, chocolate, and caramel syrup
- Whipped cream
- Some drizzled peanuts
- A cherry
- And of course, a full, ripe, peeled banana, typically split in half and laid across each side of the dish
