There’s no other way to describe it: headaches are a nuisance. They come on rapidly and have the ability to disrupt our day. There are several causes of headaches, but for many of us, they are brought on by certain lifestyle factors, such as stress or lack of sleep. Luckily, a lot of headaches can be relieved by taking medicine, such as Advil or Tylenol, which will ease the pain swiftly.
If your headache is mild and does not seem to require a doctor’s attention, there are also a variety of natural remedies that work to alleviate headaches that you may want to try first, before reaching for medicine, including:
• Drink water. Sometimes, a headache occurs because of dehydration so drinking a tall glass of water slowly will help relieve some of the tension. Eating foods that have a high water count, such as fruits and vegetables, can also help.
• Aromatherapy. You can add a few drops of lavender, peppermint, or chamomile essential oils to your bathwater, or even rub a few drops mixed with vegetable oil onto your neck to ease your headache.
• Use ice or heat. When you apply heat to your neck, back, or shoulders, it relaxes tight muscles that can cause headaches. Additionally, cold compresses are a great way to alleviate a migraine or sinus headache.
• Get something to eat. Sometimes, getting rid a headache is as simple as putting food in your body. If you’ve gone too long between eating, your body could just have low blood sugar, which can result in a headache.
