The kitchen is arguably the most-used room in any home, which means it can also be the room that needs the most cleaning. In addition to being used a lot, kitchens are also places where we prepare food and beverages, which only increases the need for regular kitchen cleaning.
While kitchen cleaning is work, there are ways to streamline the process and make your cleaning as effective as possible. Consider these tips when cleaning your kitchen:
- Cleaning a kitchen sponge – Studies have shown that kitchen sponges contain more germs than any other spot in a home. To keep a kitchen sponge clean, wet it and put it in the microwave for two minutes. Let it cool for a few minutes and then retrieve it. Repeat this process every other day. (Do not try this if your kitchen sponge contains any metal.)
- Cleaning a pot with burnt-on food – Fill the dirty pot with warm water and toss a dryer sheet into the pot. After a couple hours, use the sheet to wipe down the sides and bottom of the pot, and you’ll notice that the burnt-on food will slide out. For really burnt-on food, let the dryer sheet soak in the pot overnight.
- Cleaning under a refrigerator – Get a broom or mop handle and stretch an old pair of pantyhose over it. Drag the handle from one side of the fridge to the other, bringing it toward you to capture the dust, dirt, and other debris, and slide it out from under the fridge. Vacuum or sweep the pile and throw away the pantyhose.
