The Rainbow River, located in Marion County, FL, is a 5.7-mile-long river that is fed by natural springs. Located just over an hour away from The Quarters apartments, tubing down the river is a fantastic and relaxing way to enjoy a day. Tubes are available for visitors to rent and a shuttle service ticket can be purchased to bring them back after the four-hour float. Here are some things Rainbow River visitors should keep in mind:
-
Sunscreen is a must – Although fun and relaxing, tubing down the river takes an average of four hours, meaning four hours of exposure to the sun. Visitors should apply sunscreen before starting their float and bring some with them to reapply as needed.
-
Bring water and snacks – To prevent dehydration caused by the sun, heat, and activity, it is important that visitors bring plenty of water with them during their float. It is also a great idea to bring snacks because there is no way to get any food until your float is over. Cans, plastic, glass, foam, paper, and alcohol are not allowed at the river so visitors will need to prepare beforehand to make sure everything they bring will be permitted. A good idea is for visitors to bring a small tube that can hold a cooler and tie it to their tube so that they can have access to drinks and food without the hassle of holding onto everything.
-
Prepare to encounter wildlife – There is a variety of wildlife on the Rainbow River and visitors can expect to see many animals including but not limited to alligators, turtles, otters, birds, and fish.
The KP Hole Park is a great way to access the river and enjoy the natural beauty that Florida has to offer.
