In our efforts to “go green,” we want to encourage our residents to watch their waste. According to the Clean Air Council, the average American creates up to 56 tons of trash per year – an enormous amount of garbage for one person if you stop and think about it.
There are so many small ways we can give back to the environment, and one of the best things we can do is try and limit our personal trash. Here are some simple ways to reduce waste in your Lady Lake apartment –
Purchasing…
- Invest in a stainless steel water container and a water pitcher. This way, you can eliminate the waste of disposable plastic water bottles.
- Look for eco-friendly packaging. These days, many companies are trying to use packaging made of recycled materials, so keep an eye out for these earth-friendly efforts.
- Use reusable lunch boxes and meal containers.
Tossing…
- Think twice before throwing something in the garbage. Get creative and see if someone else might have a need for it—remember, your trash may be another person’s treasure.
- Use both sides of a sheet of paper. Encourage kids to color on both sides too! Let them know that “going green” has to start early.
- Always recycle paper and plastic.
Donating…
- Check out freecycle.org.
- Get into the habit of swinging by your local resale shop to donate old clothing and furniture.
- Make sure you offer second-hand items to neighbors and family.
Although these may seem like tiny gestures, every little bit counts. By adjusting to an eco-friendly lifestyle, we can all do a small part in honoring our earth and taking better care of it.
