Write a List
Writing a list of all the important items you’re taking with you can be massively helpful when planning a move. Getting everything down on paper helps you plan what to bring and ensures there’s less of a chance of items being forgotten.
Pay for Movers and Supplies
It’s best to stock up on boxes, tape, bubble wrap, labels, and other supplies well before your move. You don’t want to be caught buying these items at the last minute when you have so much else on your mind. Additionally, if you’re using a moving company, now is a good time to hire one. If you wait to the last minute, you may not be able to find a company that’s able to handle the project on the day you need.
Donate or Sell Unwanted Belongings
A move is the perfect time to donate or sell belongings you no longer need. Doing this will make moving easier, keep your new place less cluttered, and potentially save you from spending money on a storage unit.
Plan to Cancel or Transfer Your Utilities, Internet, and More
Before you move, make sure to have services like internet and cable cancelled or transferred to your new address. Don’t pay for services at a house or apartment you’re no longer living at! Also submit a change of address form at the Post Office so your mail doesn’t get lost.
